Inclusion in our Community
Connections in Our Community
It's Down Syndrome Awareness Month and it's been a long times since I last posted anything on this blog. Life has changed in the past number of years. Micah is in 3rd grade, Kyle is in 5th.
We work hard at inclusion each and every day. Some days it works, others we feel different and left out. It's a struggle to navigate family life, friends, family and faith life. However we are grateful for those who include us...differences, abilities and all.
We are grateful for the many communities that support us. Our neighbors in Woodbury,(Stonemill Farms), St. Croix Prep Academy (Stillwater) and Valley Crossing Elementary (Woodbury), two great churches - St. James (Crystal) and King of Kings, (Woodbury). Support groups and communities such as Stillwater, Down Syndrome Support group, Dyslexia Association of MN, Special Olympics, Courage Kenny, Family Achievement, Learn to Learn, Behavior Solutions and so much more.
This October our family was featured in the Woodbury Connector Magazine. Each month they highlight a different family. Ours was chosen to be part of the October issue. What a great experience. I hope this brings awareness of the joys and challenges of families with special needs.
