Therapy

Micah will have physical therapy (PT) for probably the rest of his life. We'll be meeting with "Pete", Micah's physical therapist, every week for the next couple of months. The goal is to help Micah develop the basic strength and movements that will help him roll, crawl, walk and eat.

All kids develop these milestones by using their innate reflexes accomplish these tasks. Micah will have a harder time doing these simple tasks because of his low muscle tone. Therefore to help him build muscle and help those reflexes react in the proper manner. Right now we are teaching him the basic steps.

We are working on rolling these days. A couple times a day we spend time on the floor pulling his legs up and moving them to the side. This naturally makes his torso turn and then his head follows. When he's strong enough he will initiate these movements. For now we assist him.

What's mind boggling is that I never knew there was a proper way to roll. And that if kids use the proper way then they will have better communication skills. Rolling also is connected to learning retention and will help ensure proper back alignment. Thus reducing the potential for problems later in life.
