Cute

Lately people have been saying, "He is SO cute"! People have been talking about Micah (both our kids) like this for a while. And it finally dawned on me that THEY ARE being SINCERE.

At first I didn't believe them. I felt like they were saying this out of obligation or pity. And then I started to think they were crazy. Thinking to myself, "Don't you see, he has Down Syndrome. You think that is cute?" I never really trusted their comments.

Yes, I think he is cute and adorable. But I see through the drool, the crazy teeth and the funny faces. I see his heart. I see his determination, his strength, his power, and his ability to meet every challenge head on. I see the love he radiates and shares, and (usually) I don't see the Down Syndrome.

So what do others see? Maybe they don't see the Down Syndrome or maybe that's not important to them. I'm realizing that others are able to see his heart, and with or without Down Syndrome HE IS CUTE!
