On Monday, November 9th we welcomed Micah Aaron Brechler to the world. It was a short labor only 4 hours from my water breaking to 7:16pm when I delivered Micah Aaron at a nearby hospital without my Doctor, Dad (Gary) or drugs. It all was quite sudden and surreal. I was so glad that I got to share this with my mom. This was a moment of great joy.
Micah Aaron arrived in this world as a little "bit of heaven" packaged in a sweet bundle. He was 7lbs 12 oz and 20 inches. His name comes from one of my favorite Bible verses Micah 6:8 - "What does the Lord require of you? To do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God." He is small tiny, unique and so very special. How is he special? He has a special amount of chromosomes - or more commonly known as, “Down syndrome.” We prefer to think of him as a “bit of heaven.” God has given him special abilities and we are truly grateful that God has trusted us as parents to care for such a sweet little boy.
Since we heard the news, there has been much prayer and concern. What we do know is that Micah will face some different challenges, developmental delays, and may have more health issues down the line. All of the doctors have been wonderful and sensitive to our family, and has given us a list of common issues we will be watching for as Micah grows and changes. We know today that he has no heart defects or hearing problems. For this there is great joy.
Please keep us in your prayers. We are exhausted, tired and are going through all the emotions you can possibly imagine. Yes, this week has held some challenges - yet we still look on our many blessings with great joy. We hope that you will be blessed as Micah our "bit of heaven" comes your way. We hope that you will join us in this journey and celebrate with us the special moments of this special life.
